DESCRIPTION:The Writers of the Future is for science fiction\, fantasy\, and horror short stories of 1500 to 17\,000 words by any author. Prize is up to $6000\, plus a one-week intensive workshop in Hollywood\, California (with some big-name authors as teachers)\, including attendance at an awards gala in the winners’ honor.. Please note that this contest is funded by L. Ron Hubbard’s estate\, which might as well be the same as being funded by the church of Scientology. However\, in my experience as a past winner of the contest\, the contest is kept extremely separate from the religion (and they are up-front with winners about their funding).
